YOUNG ARCHAEOLOGISTS
Elementary - Secondary | Simulated archaeological digs
Archaeologists really dig what they do!
Invite your students to get some dirt under their fingernails at a simulated archaeological dig where they can learn all about this fascinating profession!
Their mission will be to unearth traces linked to different periods on Montréal’s birthplace, where Pointe-à-Callière stands.
By following the steps in the scientific method in archaeology as they identify objects and put them in context, the students will get a good idea of the joys and challenges of this profession.
They’ll also see the city’s past from an unusual viewpoint, as they unearth layers and layers of history.
WHAT WILL THE STUDENTS DO AT THE MUSEUM?
- Take part in a simulated archaeological dig and unearth traces of the past.
- Analyze some objects in the laboratory to determine what period they belong to.
- Learn about stratigraphy and identify the periods of occupation on the Pointe à Callière site.
- Handle actual archaeological artifacts and use real archaeologists’ tools.
